Acid Reflux and Heartburn affect over 1/3 third of the population making it one of the most common “medical conditions” that plague or country. Most likely, you or someone you know currently suffer from chronic acid reflux and need some ongoing support care or medication.

Acid Reflux or GERD (Gastroesophogeal Reflux Disease) cost about $10 billion per year and is by far the most expensive gastrointestinal disorder according to the American Gastroenterological Association. The most common treatment for this disorder is to medicate with an antacid in hopes of reducing the overall acidity of the stomach.

What if Too Much Acid wasn’t the problem?

The truth behind Acid Reflux and Heartburn is an UNDER acid production in the stomach. I know this is not what you have been told by the media, pharmaceutical companies, or your doctors, but let me explain….

Most Americans have a bacterial problem in their stomach and not an acid problem. Due to poor dietary choices, medication use, and anti-biotics, the “good” bacteria in their stomach is wiped out or compromised. This allows “bad” bacteria to take over and cover the lining of the stomach. As a result, the proton pumps, which produce acid to break down the food you’ve ingested, are blocked and the food isn’t properly broken down and digested.

The stomach is the MOST acidic place in your body and is designed that way to aid in digestion. Without HIGH acidity, proteins in your food can’t be broken down to amino acids and macro-nutrients can’t be broken down to micro-nutrients. In addition, the duodenum (beginning of small intestine) won’t allow that undigested food out of the stomach and creates a “back up”. It is this back up of food that produces the acid that you experience with Acid Reflux and Heartburn.

Taking an antacid is only making your problem WORSE! Sure, you may experience some symptom relief but you are perpetuating the problem. By taking an antacid that inhibits your body’s own proton pumps from working you are further inhibiting proper digestion and will result in MORE food build up and acid in your stomach. This is why most people that start taking an antacid find themselves taking one for the rest of their lives.

To fix Acid Reflux you must ADD Acid to your stomach! By creating a MORE acidic environment in your stomach you can effectively break down the food stuck in there and allow proper gut flora to return. Remember, it wasn’t a too much acid problem in the first place it was a bacteria growth leading to a too little acid problem.

One of the easiest things to implement is taking a shot of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar with your meal. I know that it sounds challenging but, trust me, it will prevent that heartburn. Apple Cider Vinegar is very acidic and will aid your stomach in breaking down the food that you eat.

In my office we use a Betaine Hydrochloride (HCL) supplement that works wonders. Many patients prefer this to taking a shot of Apple Cider Vinegar and it is easy to carry around with them as well. If you don’t have access to Betaine Hydrochloride, however, the Apple Cider Vinegar is great way of dealing with the heartburn.

Remember, it’s not too much acid that is the problem, it’s too little. Rid your heartburn and acid reflux today by adding MORE acid to your stomach with the use of Betaine Hydrochloride or Apple Cider Vinegar.
